The hunt for a new detective pairing in season two of True Detective is underway and it may be leading to yet another Oscar nominated actor. While Matthew McConaughey not only upgraded himself from nominee to Oscar winner this year, he won’t be returning to the series next year and the format of the show means major recasting was to happen always.

According to a report floating around, one name to consider for a role is Brad Pitt, who is rumored to be in talks for a lead role in the new season of True Detective.

Per The Independent:

"“Brad has tight relations with HBO — he teamed up with Ryan Murphy last year to produce the HBO movie The Normal Heart. I know everyone would be thrilled to have him onboard.”"

As we will with mostly every single other True Detective rumor for next season, this need to be taken with a grain of salt. While Pitt would make sense, since HBO is in the business of getting Hollywood stars to join their television projects, it’s far from a done deal.

Pitt is also notorious for not wanting to repeat the same role, and a gritty detective role was already done in David Fincher’s 1995 film Se7en. Still, Pitt is an intriguing choice and it’s clear that the next season may be shooting for the stars in the most literal way.
