True Detective producer says second season will be hard to create

The second season of True Detective is coming down the pike, it’s just taking us all a little while to realize that these things need time and that the show can’t be rushed through production simply because we miss it.

But while we’re waiting for the next season to begin filming, HBO and the producers of the show recognize the urgency in which they need to start getting things together and filming a new season of True Detective.

Producer Scott Stephens noted that the second season of True Detective poses a slew of new challenges as the time frame in which to get everything done is far more concise than it was before.

"“Now, after the completion of season 1, we’re left trying to replicate that model, while… we do have to get the show back on the air. We had well over two years to get the first season written, developed, into production and on the air,” Stephens continued. “We can’t sustain that moving forward, because they want a successful show back on the air. We’re now scratching our heads, digging deep and trying to develop a compelling story in a timely manner.”"

This is why many are expecting the second season to take a step back, as the formula and the time frame in which to get things done are no longer the same. There wasn’t as much pressure with the first season and there was apparently a ton of time to get things done.

That’s not the case this time around and while the show has momentum, we can’t set the bar too high.
