True Detective Dream Casting: Gillian Anderson, John Liguizamo, and a Twist.

Our long look into the abyss continues with more casting possibilities. It’s difficult to remember a time that an upcoming casting announcement generated this much anticipation. It’s possible that it’s just never happened before. As we near the end of June we are hopefully inching closer to the real thing, but until that time comes we’re on our own. Our previous choices have all included established stars, but that’s not the direction we’re going to take today. Assuming that season 2 will, as previously reported, have 3 leads, it would be interested if at least one of them was an unknown. Season 1 made headlines for its casting choices, but maybe the thing to do now would be to steer things into a different direction. Everyone is expecting three big names to be announced shortly, so why not switch things up?

If we have one unknown in the mix, who should be the two big names? John Leguizamo would be an interesting choice. Leguizamo hasn’t been seen in much lately outside of John Favreau’s new film, Chef. Leguizamo doesn’t always come to mind when thinking of dramatic actors, but he’s proven in the past that he has what it takes. Although Summer of Sam isn’t a great film, Leguizamo turns in a fantastic — if despicable — performance. Let’s not forget he’s also currently starring in his own one-man show, Ghetto Klown. And then, of course, there’s Gillian Anderson. Certainly no stranger to television or drama, Anderson would be a very welcome addition to the world of True Detective. One of the shows she was starring in, Crisis, was recently canceled. Between her other series, The Fall, and an excellent recurring role on Hannibal, she doesn’t exactly have all the free time in the world.

Between their current gigs we feel these two could find the time for a tiny little “miniseries.” John Leguizamo and Gillian Anderson would make a very interesting pairing, especially when put together with an unknown. Or they could just cast three unknowns and the world would explode. Here’s to hoping we don’t have too much longer to wait.
