True Detective Dream Director: Danny Boyle

The second season of True Detective is almost upon us but the wait feels like it’s so far away still. We will eventually have to hear the cast announcements and all the technical information in the coming weeks and from there we can look ahead to the actual new episodes coming down the pike in early 2015.

But while we are all getting amped up about the cast being announced, the question of who should direct the new season of the show has come up more than a few times and it’s something that we should be taking as seriously as finding a lead crew of actors and actresses.
If True Detective can take famous movie actors and put them on the show, why can’t the same be done for directors? David Fincher revolutionized Netflix with House of Cards and that could open the door for someone like Danny Boyle to do the same.
Boyle has always been a punk rock filmmaker, as his films like Trainspotting and Shallow Grave helped show off his unique style while others like Millions, 28 Days Later and the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire showed off his impeccable range. To boot, his run on the stage with Frankenstein as well as his numerous other projects shows how versatile and open he is to doing different things with his skills.
He’s a superbly talented filmmaker who can be light and funny but drench things with dark subject matter at the same time. All of that would make Boyle a brilliant choice to take over an entire season of True Detective.
It’s a long shot, as the series will bring in a smaller director to handle the script controlled by Nic Pizzolatto, but having big name directors tackle entire eight episode seasons of True Detective might be a way to make the show so much more than it already is, and who better to kick things off with than Danny Boyle?
