The Emmy Awards were this past week and one of the hottest shows heading into things was True Detective. But while the series was well received by critics, it failed to walk away with any of the major Best drama awards.

More from HBO

Despite there being no awards for Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey this year, they still had plenty of fun at the Emmy Awards. An awkwardly hilarious moment occurred when both McConughey and Harrelson came out to present an Emmy and riffed off script on one another for the audience’s enjoyment.

But the awkward moment came when Harrelson told McConaughey that most of his lines were plagiarism. This plays off the allegations of plagiarism that have been brought against True detective creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto, but it’s hard to say ot went off well.

Here’s the video below:

It was a pretty funny moment but it’s one that is still being talked about thanks to HBO not only being linked to this story again but it’s being done so by one of the stars of the show. It’s hard to say if Pizzolatto did or did not lift lines from other scripts and books, but the bottom line is the show was stellar for its acting and not for it’s writing — although that was pretty air tight as well.
