True Detective Season 2: What if casting gambles don’t pay off?

The second season of the hit HBO series True Detective is coming down the pipe, and that means we’re going to see and hear more from the cast of the show as we press further into October. What we will also hear and see more of are the trolls out there who continue to rail against the cast that was chosen for the show. But mixed in with those trolls are genuinely concerned fans who are uncertain the new cast of the show will be able to pull off what everyone wants them to do — which is come as close to emulating the first season as possible.

All of this raises the question of why fans want a repetitive season, but the bottom line is that there are legitimate concerns about the cast that was chosen and there’s a possibility that it won’t work out. Not everything True Detective touches has to instantly turn to gold, and that’s going to be evident in the casting of Season 2. We’re already seeing that in the backlash from fans, who have invested so much faith in the series that casting Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn in the leads has caused so much outcry.

No one is saying the cast will indeed fail — well, except almost everyone — but in theory there is nothing to worry about until we actually see footage. That’s something we haven’t seen yet and it’s something that is going to force us all to reserve judgement until we actually see if this is going to work or not.
