It Would Take a Miracle For True Detective to Make Its January Premiere

That’s not as bold a statement as it may look. When it comes to production on True Detective, we’re just a few squares a way from the first one. Some of that can’t be helped; Nic Pizzolatto is the only writer working on it and he’s the show runner. But by now we’re all acquainted with just how much work that is, though perhaps not personally so. With three leads confirmed and one still to go, it would take a miracle for True Detective to begin and wrap filming in time for a January premiere.

It wouldn’t be out of line at this point to suggest Spring as a more realistic time. The January date was not originally set in stone, so all that’s possibly harmed in moving it back is people’s expectations. Not that those aren’t something to worry about. Star power can only go so far, but if True Detective waits too long to premiere not everyone may be coming back to see it. It’s just the way it is.

More from HBO

Season two was originally looking at a summer 2015 premiere, and we can all probably all agree that would be too far between seasons. It would be a true missed opportunity. True Detective is HBO’s rising star, but nothing about the production so far seems to have come easily. Perhaps some day we’ll be privy to the full details of what’s been going on behind the scenes.

As for now, when it comes to seeing True Detective in January 2015, don’t hold your breath.
