True Detective star Woody Harrelson was the host of Saturday Night Live this weekend, and we were given our obligatory spoof of the hit HBO series in the form of a (sort of) reunion.

Woody Harrelson hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, which meant the probability that a True Detective spoof was going to pop up was rather high. While we didn’t get a sketch dedicated to the series, we did get a segment of the Weekend Update devoted to the two stars of the show.

Harrelson showed up as himself for the bit, with Matthew McConaughey showing up as well — only being played by Taran Killam rather than actually showing up himself. This would have been a chance for McConaughey to actually give a cameo for the show but it just wasn’t meant to be.

It wasn’t the reunion we were hoping for on SNL and it wasn’t a sketch spoofing the series, but the Weekend Update segment was still hilarious. The night went well overall for Harrelson but the question of when McConaughey will show up to spoof Rust Cohle is still unanswered.

Perhaps he doesn’t need to, both because that’s kind of tacky but also because leaving the spoofing up to folks like Taran Killam is so far working out pretty great.
