Will True Detective Put Lera Lynn on the Map?

Here is something that we do know: True Detective season two will premiere in June. What we don’t know, at least not for sure, is what’s going to happen with the music. We got at taste of a new Lera Lynn song with the recently released teaser, and so far that’s all we have to go on. Though it looks likely that the new song will be the opening theme of the season, we don’t yet know for sure.

The first season of True Detective features “Far From Any Road” by The Handsome Family, a song that perfectly embodied the feel of the first season. In fact, “Far From Any Road” has wormed its way deep into the hearts of True Detective fans.

A quick search of YouTube will show a number of covers and tributes from fans that first heard that song through True Detective.

This new song by Lera Lynn has a chance to become just as powerful. Much like The Handsome Family, Lera Lynn is an independent artist who could potentially stand to gain from having a new song featured in True Detective. Any unlike “Far From Any Road,” Lynn’s song supposedly features music by T. Bone Burnett.

True Detective didn’t make The Handsome Family a household name, but it did forever tie them together with True Detective in a way that’s become very important to the fanbase. The new Lera Lynn song fits very well with the trailer, but we won’t be able to tell for sure until we see it in action once the second season premiers.

Next: Season two of True Detective features three actors in career ruts.
