Rumor: Rick Springfield’s True Detective Role Revealed?

This article contains possible spoilers for an actor’s role in True Detective season two.

A few months ago we reported that singer Rick Springfield would be joining True Detective. The news didn’t come from a formal HBO announcement, but instead from Spingfield’s own Twitter feed. Rick Springfield is no stranger to acting, as fans of Californication will be able to attest. So, no, it’s not as odd as it may seem.

We believe that we’ve discovered Rick Spingfield’s role, but even though the news isn’t exactly earth-shattering or plot-spoiling, per say, we’re going to throw up an official spoiler warning anyway.

Over at IMDB, Rick Spingfield’s role in True Detective is listed as Dr. Pitlor. Considering this is True Detective, a show that deals with the moral grey areas, we can’t exactly say what side (if any) Springfield’s character will be on.

Perhaps more interesting than that, however, is the episode count for Dr. Pitlor. Rick Spingfield is only listed for a single episode of True Detective, making his role more of a cameo than anything else. That’ assuming that all of this information is correct, by the way. IMDB can sometimes be reliable, but we’re going to go ahead and count this as a rumor. At least for now.

Those frothing at the mouth to see Rick Springfield in True Detective won’t have to wait very long at all, since his only listed appearance comes in the first episode. Wouldn’t it be great if he was a singing doctor?

No?

Here’s Rick Springfield’s “Love Somebody,” just because.
